BAE launches new careers inspiration hub in Barrow
BAE Systems has opened a new careers hub in Barrow-in-Furness as the first part of a multi-million pound set of investments across the town.
The Careers Inspiration Hub is the first site to open at the Portland Walk Campus, offering employment advice from BAE Systems and a range of Barrow and Furness employers and organisations. More via The Manufacturer
Rolls-Royce announces ‘exciting new chapter’ for Trent 1000 engine
Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000 engine fleet has surpassed 17 million in service flying hours on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft family, carrying more than 250 million passengers around the globe since its entry into service in 2011.
Now, Rolls-Royce has announced an exciting new chapter for the Trent 1000, a Durability Enhancement package which will increase engine time on-wing (TOW) whilst also reducing emissions. More via Rolls-Royce
JLR and Tata Communications to partner on digital transformation
JLR is partnering with Tata Communications, the global commtech (communications technology) player, to future-proof its digital transformation and pave the way for new standards such as Industry 4.0 and advanced analytics.
The partnership will power the production of JLR’s next-generation vehicles, a key part of its Reimagine strategy, and provide the connectivity foundation for the next phase of digital transformation for the organisation. More via JLR
JCB celebrates 60-year partnership with unique excavator
JCB has presented longstanding customer, JC Balls & Sons, with a unique X Series tracked excavator to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
The milestone also represents 60 years of the two family-owned businesses working in partnership after founder Jim Balls established JC Balls & Sons with a JCB 3 backhoe loader in 1963. He has bought JCB ever since. More via JCB
NPL breakthrough opens the way to measure performance of next-gen quantum communication networks

Orbex awarded £3.3m as part of European Space Agency’s Boost! Initiative
UK-based orbital launch services company, Orbex, has been awarded £3.3m in funding from the UK Space Agency as part of the European Space Agency’s (ESA’s) “Boost!” initiative.
The initiative, which is part of ESA’s Commercial Space Transportation Services and Support programme, is designed to further the development of world-leading space launch technologies. More via The Manufacturer
GKN Aerospace agrees sales of Portsmouth facility
GKN Aerospace has agreed the sale of its Portsmouth facility to TransDigm Group.
GKN said the sites, which manufacture a range of complex aerospace products, predominantly helicopter fuel tanks and flotation systems, are not core for the GKN Aerospace business. More via GKN Aerospace
