Danfoss Power Solutions awarded £4.9m grant to accelerate decarbonisation of excavators

Danfoss Scotland, part of global hydraulics and electric powertrain systems supplier Danfoss Power Solutions, has received a grant worth £4.9m (approximately $6.1 million) from the U.K. Government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero through the Red Diesel Replacement Phase 2 Competition.

The programme provides funding for projects developing low-carbon alternatives to red diesel for the construction, mining and quarrying sectors. Danfoss will use the funds to validate its Dextreme Max system in a 30-ton electric excavator, which it expects will reduce energy consumption by 50%. Find out more at The Manufacturer

Leonardo deepens relationship with High Value Manufacturing Catapult

Leonardo UK has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult, a network of seven world-class research and innovation centres that turn great ideas into commercial realities. The new agreement, which focuses on Leonardo’s UK-based helicopters and electronics businesses, represents a significant step forward in the partners’ long-standing collaboration. Under the new MoU, the two organisations will explore and pursue innovative opportunities in advanced manufacturing, rotorcraft technology, supply chain optimisation and skills development. Aston Martin DB5 celebrates 60 years as world’s most iconic car

The world’s most iconic car, the Aston Martin DB5, has turned 60 with Aston Martin leading the celebrations.

DS Smith and Coca-Cola replace plastic handles with ‘Lift Up’ cardboard based packaging innovation

DS Smith PLC and Coca Cola HBC Austria have collaborated to replace plastic handles for 1.5 litre PET soft drink multi-packs with cardboard based outer packaging. This new plastic replacement solution will be delivered to supermarkets in Austria as of September 2023.

The innovative packaging solution, DS Smith Lift Up, is a 100% recyclable corrugated handle which improves carry functionality for consumers and is designed to contribute together with other partners to the kraft paper and cardboard based solution that reduces around 200 tonnes of plastic each year for Coca-Cola HBC Austria. Toyota sets out advanced battery technology roadmap

Toyota recently announced a new battery electric vehicle factory that will begin production of new models in 2026. Not only will these cars be designed and built differently, they will be powered by a range of new, advanced batteries.

Details of four next generation batteries have been revealed, demonstrating state-of-the-art advances in both liquid and solid electrolytes. Toyota has also previewed further progress with solid electrolyte battery technology. Find out more at Toyota UK

FalconWorks® – BAE Systems’ new combat air research facility celebrates major milestones two months since launch

BAE Systems’ FalconWorks division and leading sustainable aircraft technology developer, Hybrid Air Vehicles, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new ways of communicating and gathering intelligence.

Earlier this week at DSEI, the team at FalconWorks also announced a new framework agreement with QinetiQ, which will see both parties collaborate on autonomous Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS) and mission management systems. Find out more at BAE Systems

Nissan-backed ServCity vehicle research project wins Sustainability Award from Marie Claire UK

A ground-breaking Nissan-backed research project examining how autonomous vehicles can cut congestion, enhance road safety and provide more inclusive mobility solutions has won a sustainability award from Marie Claire UK.

ServCity was a consortium project supported by UK Government, that looked at how self-driving cars could be deployed in cities, and how future ‘robotaxi’ services could help benefit city residents and commuters.

It was named winner of the Eco City Travel category at the 2023 Marie Claire UK Sustainability Awards, which celebrate the leading brands, organisations and products that champion sustainability and strive to protect the planet. Find out more at Nissan UK
