JCB to create 500 jobs at Midlands manufacturing plant

JCB has pledged to create 500 new jobs at its Midlands manufacturing plant.

BAE Systems awarded £60m MoD contract to upgrade Royal Navy’s Sting Ray torpedo

BAE Systems has been awarded a £60m Ministry of Defence contract to upgrade the Royal Navy’s autonomous Sting Ray lightweight torpedo.

The BAE Systems’ team will design and develop the Sting Ray torpedo upgrade over a four-year assessment phase, which will include the construction of prototypes and in-water trials. More via The Manufacturer

UK’s embattled manufacturers see brighter days, Make UK/BDO survey shows

British manufacturers grappling with falling output and fading growth in new orders see better days ahead, helped by a more stable political environment after the landslide election win for the Labour Party, a survey showed on Monday.

Industry body Make UK and accountants BDO said their gauge of factory output fell to a four-year low of -2% in the third quarter from +9% in the second quarter. More via Reuters

Construction begins on YASA’s new Bicester Motion HQ

Construction has begun on a manufacturer’s new headquarters in Bicester.

A ground breaking ceremony for YASA’s new UK headquarters at Bicester Motion, a bespoke development covering 90,000 sq ft, took place on September 12. More via Oxford Mail

300th Hitachi train delivered for UK passengers

On Friday, Hitachi Rail delivered its 300th train for UK passengers, a Class 807 for Avanti West Coast.

The delivery of the new train represents a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the UK railways, which began with the introduction of the iconic Class 395 Javelin train in June 2009. More via The Manufacturer
