UK takes action to boost supply chain resilience for critical goods and back businesses
UK supplies of critical goods such as medicines, minerals and semiconductors will be safeguarded, thanks to the Government’s new Critical Imports and Supply Chains Strategy launched today.
More than 100 top UK firms, including pharmaceutical and manufacturing leaders like The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and Green Lithium have contributed to the strategy to ensure it helps develop resilient and secure supply chains that protect both their business and the consumers who rely on them. University of Sheffield Energy Innovation Centre opened by Lord Callanan
A new centre that enables businesses to carry out innovative research and development projects with some of the largest and most exciting equipment in Europe, has opened at the University of Sheffield.
The Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) gives industries access to some of the University’s world class research facilities to test and develop new low-carbon energy technologies. More via University of Sheffield
Bentley signs the Armed Forces Covenant as a testament of ongoing commitment
Bentley Motors has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a national pledge to support the Armed Forces Community at the home of Bentley in Crewe, together with members of the Ministry of Defence and Dr. Karen Lange, Member of the Board for HR.

Castleford Haribo factory expansion plans approved
Confectionery giant Haribo’s plans to expand its West Yorkshire factory have been approved.
The firm said the 32-acre extension at Castleford would help protect almost 700 jobs and ensure its facilities were “world class”.
The plans include the construction of a warehouse next to Haribo’s plant on Whitwood Common Lane off the M62. More via BBC News

Bernard Matthews proposes site closure, risks 600 jobs
Up to 600 jobs have been put at risk at poultry meat firm Bernard Matthews Farms after the company announced proposals to close its Norfolk, UK, site following another year of losses.
The Norfolk-based brand lost £10m in 2023, with £25m in losses in the year prior.
It is proposing to close its processing plant in Great Witchingham, Norfolk, UK, which has been the firm’s headquarters since 1955 and employs around 600 people. More via FoodBev Media
