UK Industry sets out priorities to make Advanced Air Mobility a reality
In a report released today by ADS, the UK trade association for aerospace, defence, security and space organisations, UK industry sets out its key priorities for the rollout of a thriving Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) market in the UK.
The report, produced by ADS’ AAM Special Interest Group, which consists of ADS members from prime, mid-tier, and SME organisations contains several recommendations for decision-makers, including regulators and Government. Read more via The Manufacturer
UK and Welsh governments work together to deliver two Freeports in Wales
Two new Freeports, one in Anglesey and one in Port Talbot and Milford Haven, will help to create jobs, drive growth and level up opportunities across Wales, the UK and Welsh governments have jointly announced today (Thursday 23 March).
The new sites are estimated to bring forward almost £5bn in private and public investment and create over 20,000 new, high-skilled jobs, backed by up to £26m each in UK Government funding. This will help to boost the economy and address gaps that are currently holding back investment. Read more via GOV.UK
Ricardo supports industry leaders to develop innovative dedicated hydrogen engine
Ricardo has delivered a hydrogen-fuelled research engine to global engine specialist Cummins and automotive supplier BorgWarner, as part of Project BRUNEL part funded by the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC).
The project aims to support internal combustion engine (ICE) sub-system suppliers to increase their use of hydrogen as an alternative zero-emissions fuel solution across the light commercial vehicle market. Read more via The Manufacturer
LEVC celebrates 10,000 vehicles
LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) is celebrating the significant milestone of producing its 10,000th vehicle at its state-of-the-art factory in Ansty, Coventry, UK.
LEVC has manufactured the TX – the world’s most advanced electric taxi – at its groundbreaking facility since 2017. Since the first TX taxi was delivered in January 2018 in London, 10,000 vehicles have now been built and sold throughout multiple global markets, from Paris to Madrid, Cairo to Tokyo. New training centre launched at MTC Liverpool
The Manufacturing Technology Centre’s Liverpool facility is to be the base for a new advanced manufacturing training centre delivering skills to businesses and learners in Liverpool and the north west.
MTC Training will deliver new apprenticeships, upskilling courses and HNC programmes from the MTC’s facility on Liverpool Science Park. Read more via The Manufacturer
UKRI bolsters Transforming UK Food Systems Strategic Priorities Fund with new trade-focused interdisciplinary project
UKRI has added a new £680,000 interdisciplinary project to its Transforming UK Food Systems Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) programme.
The successful project, led by the University of Reading, aims to model a suite of factors that influence food imports to the UK market.
It will also delve into the associated interventions that could be implemented to transform the UK food system to improve the dietary health of UK citizens and the health of the environment. Read more via UK Research and Innovation
Henry Hoover manufacturer to expand its Somerset factory site
A major Somerset employer will be able to expand after plans to redevelop a vacant industrial site were approved.
Chard-based Numatic International Ltd. will use the site to create 6,000 sq. m. of warehouse space for storing its products (including the popular Henry and Hetty vacuum cleaners), as well as an injection moulding plant, assembly line area and storage based for raw materials.
