Demolition has started at an iconic Yorkshire plant to facilitate construction of the UKs largest open-die forging line.
Parts of Sheffield Forgemasters’ site at the north of Brightside Lane, are undergoing controlled demolition to create space for a 13,000 tonne Heavy Forge, which will be housed in a new 12,700 sq. m. structure adjacent to the Sheffield to Meadowhall train line. Find out more at The Manufacturer
Innovate UK announces £13m to help transform medicines manufacturing
Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, has announced the winners of a series of competitions focusing on:
- nucleic acid medicines
- intracellular drug delivery
- digitalisation and automation

Northern Ireland manufacturer invests £7m in new facility to drive business efficiency
Antrim-based manufacturer, SAM Mouldings has revealed £7m investment plans at its architectural-mouldings manufacturing facility.
This latest multi-million pound investment will be channelled into product innovation, distribution system improvements and the construction of a new 45,000 square foot warehousing facility located in Newpark Industrial Estate, Antrim. Find out more at Belfast News Letter

Carbon-capturing battery research boosted by lab-on-a-chip
Efficient and cheap batteries that also capture carbon emissions could be “right around the corner” thanks to a new tool, researchers have claimed.
The technology, a system that speeds up evaluation of catalysts for lithium-carbon dioxide (Li-CO2) batteries, was developed at the University of Surrey, Imperial College London and Peking University in China. Find out more at IMechE

BAE Systems selects robotics partner for Industry 4.0 factory
A robotics supplier has been chosen by BAE Systems to continue working on current and emergent projects in its Factory of the Future.
True Position Robotics (TPR)’s previous work consisted of providing robot guiding technology to enhance the accuracy of conventional robots, significantly reducing the need for traditional assembly tooling.
