The Home of British Helicopters: Yeovil celebrates official status

Yeovil, home to Britain’s only onshore helicopter manufacturer Leonardo, is celebrating its official recognition by the town and local councils as the “Home of British Helicopters”.

The status reflects Yeovil’s storied history of aviation firsts and the huge value helicopter design and manufacture contributes to the local, regional, and national economies. HS2’s demand for UK recycled steel supports hundreds of jobs while cutting carbon in construction

Old car parts, radiators and shopping trolleys are being given a new lease of life in the construction of Britain’s new railway – HS2. The UK recycled steel initiative, which is helping HS2 to cut carbon in construction, is also supporting hundreds of jobs in South Wales, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. Innovation investment fund tops £100m to provide UK economic boost

Investment in the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S), a driving force in supporting early-stage innovation and high-impact businesses, now totals £102m.

This follows further investment into its patient capital fund by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Ministry of Defence.

Continued investment in the fund reflects its excellent track record of nurturing ground-breaking businesses and fostering sustainable growth across the UK, having attracted over £700m from the private sector since 2002 – a return of £25 for every £1 invested. Find out more at The Manufacturer

Scottish manufacturer announces international expansion with Barclays support

Scottish agriculture-feed manufacturer, Galloway and MacLeod, has expanded operations to five new overseas markets after receiving operational support from Barclays Corporate Banking.

Galloway and MacLeod now supplies customers across the UK and Europe, including Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany and Sweden with quality agriculture feed supplies, which has resulted in an estimated £3m increase in turnover (16 percent) in the last 12 months. Find out more at Bdaily News

Bentley launches new personalised customer tour experiences at Crewe HQ

Bentley Motors has made further investments in its customer experiences by creating new fully immersive, innovative and digitally engaging experiences at its historic Crewe headquarters, which will launch from September 2023.

From 1 September 2023, this new adaption of the manufacturing base will allow customers to create their own Bentley design legacy as well as enjoying a transformational, digitally immersive, 3D lineage experience that will bring the story of Bentley’s long and rich history to life. School children name robots at DTS factory

Three school children have won a competition to name robots at Donaldson Timber System’s (DTS) factory in Witney, the leading UK offsite frame manufacturer.

Pupils from Years 3 and 4 at West Witney Primary School took part in the competition after being taught about the installation work at the factory and receiving a lesson about timber frame and its sustainability benefits. They were then encouraged to come up with creative or ‘punny’ names for nine new robots, which are part of a live factory upgrade that will be completed this year. Find out more at TTJ

EMR, Northvolt establish EV battery recycling facility in Germany

Sweden-based electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer Northvolt and U.K.-based metal recycler EMR have built and commenced operations at a battery recycling facility in Hamburg, Germany. The companies say the new site will recycle end-of-life EV batteries in the coming years and provide “much-needed” capacity to support the recycling of batteries in Europe.
