Skills a priority as electrification race aims to deliver over 169,000 jobs

£9.13m awarded to develop cutting-edge farming technology
Three cutting-edge projects will receive a share of £9.13m in government funding to carry out research and development on proposals to boost agricultural productivity, sustainability and climate resilience, it has been announced today.
The funding will support projects developing robotic crop harvesting for horticulture, an autonomous system to change cows’ bedding to improve their health, welfare and productivity, and a more environmentally-friendly approach to potato cultivation. Read more via GOV UK

Northvolt in talks to secure $5bn to become Europe’s biggest battery maker
Swedish start-up Northvolt is in talks to secure more than $5bn of financing to pursue its goal of becoming Europe’s biggest battery manufacturer.
The company is negotiating with a number of banks to raise the debt financing and an agreement could be reached later this year, according to people with knowledge of the details. Read more via Financial Times

Nissan manufacturing leader Kevin Fitzpatrick retires
After nearly 40 years, in which he has seen Nissan Sunderland Plant rise from an empty field into one of the world’s most important automotive hubs, senior vice president Kevin Fitzpatrick is retiring.
Mr Fitzpatrick was one of the original 22 supervisors hired before the plant opened to oversee the start of production of the Nissan Bluebird in 1986. As the factory has grown, so has his career and influence. Read more via Production Engineering Solutions

The UK’s leading developer of specialised leak detection and environmental protection systems, Andel, installed sustainable flood defence for UK Power Networks recently.
