UK government unveils Advanced Manufacturing Plan to boost British industry

The UK government has unveiled its Advanced Manufacturing Plan, a 47-page document setting out the actions being taken to position the country as the go-to place to start and grow a manufacturing business.

According to the government, hundreds of thousands of UK jobs will be created in the battery sector alone as a result of the new Battery Strategy, which includes £50m of newly allocated government funding to deliver a globally competitive battery supply chain by 2030. Other notable commitments include over £2bn earmarked for the automotive industry, including batteries, and £975m for aerospace. More via The Manufacturer

Digital skills conversion programme helps JLR troubleshoot global supply challenges and deliver multi-million pound results

A training programme developed by JLR to provide a new career route for the next generation of budding digital engineers has helped deliver more than £430m in value for the business over the past year.

JLR’s Data Engineering Conversion Programme, which was launched in 2021, has provided dozens of new data engineers within JLR with new skills.

Digitally skilled colleagues are now able to use data to predict global supply and manufacturing challenges. This means JLR can make decisions to protect build schedules for its strong order bank of over 150,000 vehicles, contributing to a best-ever cashflow performance for the business for the first half of the 2023/24 financial year. Telford manufacturer reveals plans to expand Halesfield site to meet growing demand

A Telford company that is one of the leading manufacturers in its field is planning to extend its current building to meet a “growing need”.

The proposal by ESH Trace Heating in Halesfield will see their ground floor extended for manufacturing and a warehouse. The first floor is also planned to be extended to provide a new office area. More via Shropshire Star

Nissan accelerates switch to full electric with £1.1bn UK investment

Nissan is charging ahead with its vision for a zero emissions future, with confirmation that all three models made at its UK plant will go 100% electric.

Today’s announcement means the EV36Zero hub in Sunderland, Nissan’s blueprint for future manufacturing, will consist of three electric vehicles (EVs), three gigafactories and up to £3bn investment – great news for Nissan’s 7,000 UK employees and the 30,000 jobs supported in the UK supply chain. Alexander Dennis delivers two new Plaxton Panther coaches to Apple Travel

Alexander Dennis has announced that it has handed over two new Plaxton Panther coaches to Berkshire operator Apple Travel.

The new coaches are built on the dependable Volvo B8R chassis with I-Shift transmission. One has 59 comfortable seats, the other 61. They are prepared to later be fitted with wheelchair lifts as well as side and rear displays to comply with PSV Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR), ensuring that they can easily be adapted to changing operational requirements throughout long working lives. Essentra opens new facility in Monterrey to support expansion plans in Latin America

Essentra PLC has opened a substantial new manufacturing and distribution hub in Monterrey, Mexico, both to increase production capacity for existing customers in North America, but also to grow its customer base in Mexico and Latin America.
