Rolls-Royce officially opens €30m mtu combustion engine assembly plant in Germany
Rolls-Royce yesterday officially opened a new assembly plant for its mtu Series 2000 engines in Kluftern near Friedrichshafen, Germany. This highlights the continuing role that the internal combustion engine is set to play in the energy transition through the use of sustainable fuels.
The new production facility, which was announced in 2021 and has involved a mid-double-digit million-euro investment in the future of this technology, creates space for assembly and shipping. Read more via Rolls-Royce
Hitachi Rail completes phase one roll out of Europe’s first battery train
Hitachi Rail has completed phase one of its production of ground-breaking battery Masaccio train at Hitachi Rail’s factory in Pistoia, near Florence, which are now operating on routes across the length and breadth of Italy.
The completion of 20 trains – branded as ‘Blues’ by Trenitalia – marks the first tranche of an order that sits as part of a €1.23bn framework agreement with Trenitalia for up to 135 trains that will run across Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Tuscany, Lazio and Friuli Venezia Giulia. UK Auto calls for industrial strategy to secure £106bn EV prize
The UK automotive sector has today urged all political parties to adopt five pledges and supercharge its competitiveness as part of a dedicated industrial strategy – with a £106 billion prize up for grabs from now until the end of the next parliament. A commitment to transforming automotive production, giving confidence for all drivers to go electric and upskilling our workers, combined with making sure British vehicles can be sold globally, and driving down the cost of clean energy, would unleash the sector to lead the UK’s net zero revolution. Ricardo has been named as a recipient of a Technical Excellence Supplier Award by Toyota Motor North America (‘TMNA’).
The awards recognise exceptional direct and indirect suppliers who consistently exceed TMNA’s expectations. AWI extends Employee Ownership Scheme as sales rocket towards £18m
All staff at a leading manufacturer of round, flat and profile wire are now shareholders thanks to a recently completed Management Buy-out (MBO).
Alloy Wire International (AWI), which has two sites in the West Midlands and Yorkshire, was purchased by Directors Tom Mander, Andrew Du Plessis and Adam Shaw in January, with the new management team immediately extending the firm’s Employee Ownership scheme to include all 33 employees. BAE Systems donates £500,000 to boost Portsmouth’s youth services
BAE Systems has donated £500,000 to boost Portsmouth’s youth services by creating a new educational facility in Stamshaw. The donation has been given to Portsmouth City Council for the design, build and fit-out of a new educational space within Stamshaw Adventure Playground, extending the provision of services for young people in the local community.
