British multinational packaging business, DS Smith, has won an international award for its Virtual Reality (VR) learning experience.

The leading international provider of sustainable packaging solutions and its Operations Learning Academy (OLA) won the Best International Project category at the Uptale Awards, which celebrate excellence in the eXtended reality (XR) learning space.

The DS Smith VR learning experience—which was developed by an in-house team of experts—has been used widely across the company’s Packaging Division to create thought-provoking, real-life scenarios for colleagues to learn and practice new operational skills. It is being used in DS Smith manufacturing sites across Europe to identify risks and improve on procedures in a completely risk-free and safe environment that is away from the shopfloor.

Stefano Rossi – Packaging Division CEO, DS Smith, said: “This award is great recognition for the Operations Learning Academy and demonstrates how we are equipping our operations colleagues in a creative and engaging way. While Redefining Packaging for a Changing World we are also redefining the ways in which we are providing dynamic learning opportunities to our colleagues using digital technology to improve safety and our processes.”
