Redditch-based GKN Driveline has continued its rapid expansion in China with the extension of a manufacturing facility in Shanghai worth £15m.

The company said the expansion at the 118,000 sq ft factory will help support an increase in orders from vehicle manufacturers after being driven by customer demand.

From the site, GKN Driveline will now produce high-accuracy components for engines, with an annual capacity of 11 million precision parts.

Andy Reynolds Smith, chief executive of GKN Automotive, added: “Vehicle manufacturers are continuing to expand across China, which is the world’s largest vehicle market.

“The Wuhan plant is located close to customers in the centre of China. It will ensure that we are ideally positioned to support the growth in the Chinese market, with products produced locally — coupled with a high level of customer service — to further strengthen our customer support.”
