Banning HR at wire joining and tensioning systems provider, Gripple, has empowered managers to lead and take responsibility for their own people and given the People & Culture team the time and space to execute the people strategy.
At the SME Growth Summit, taking place as part of Digital Manufacturing Week, Katrina Ritchie, Gripple’s People and Culture Director, gave a keynote explaining the fundamental difference between traditional HR and People & Culture; the advantages of keeping rules and policies to a minimum and how this is driven by, and impacts culture; and the direct correlation between empowering managers and increased morale, productivity and the bottom line.
At a visit to Gripple earlier in the year, she told The Manufacturer: “The company values drive the culture. At Gripple, we’re unpicking the culture by saying, ‘this is what people will do, this is what we’ll hear people say and this is how people will operate’. It’s really taking things back to basics, but it’s not easy. I’ve met many businesses, and they talk about having a great culture. Then you go to meet them, and they can’t describe what it is. At Gripple you can see this when you visit the factories; you can feel the culture.”
Later on during the show The Manufacturer editorial team caught up with Gordon Macrae, Gripple’s Special Projects Manager to find out more.
