Wikipedia defines the Internet of Things (IoT) as the network of physical objects or “things” with embedded electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices.

When I think of how many things or services I use that are part of this network, I am amazed.

My car runs its own system check and downloads its own updates. My washing machine is connected to the manufacturer’s help desk, I can access a home security camera from anywhere in the world, and I can stream music from my mobile phone to my home speakers.

All of this automation is great for the consumer, but is causing quite a stir at most product development companies.
