The manufacturing sector saw the strongest growth in job applications last month, with an overall rise of 36.5% compared to last year according to CV-Library.
Despite a slight drop in jobs between April and May 2015 (-2.45%), jobs in the industry have seen a year-on-year rise of 24%.
The rise in applications is encouraging for businesses, resulting in higher volumes of skilled candidates applying for each job. While May 2014 saw an average of 26.2 job applications per role, that figure has increased to 31.3 in May 2015; a rise of 19.75%, which is greater than any other sector last month.
These figures are way ahead of the current average application to job role ratio of 16.6:1, which actually dropped nationally by -2.6% last month.

“This rise means organisations have a broader spectrum of skilled professionals to choose from, meaning they can be much more selective when filling roles.
“For job-hunters, this can result in a more competitive application process and candidates should do their best to stand out from the crowd when submitting their CVs.”
