Dan Stamp, design engineer at Kliklok International, has been named Young Design Engineer of the Year at the British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEA).
The award win follows a successful 12 months which saw Stamp honoured as one of the industry’s “Ones to Watch” at the PPMA Show last year.
The BEEA judging panel commended Stamp for his role as a “brilliant and enthusiastic ambassador for engineering design”, and revealed he had “demonstrated his technical excellence and proven his engineering skills by making innovative contributions to product design and through his work inspiring young engineers.”
The 26-year old joined Kliklok as an assistant engineer in August 2011, having graduated from Bournemouth University with a first class degree in Design Engineering.
Recognising his potential, as well as the importance of supporting young engineers in the industry, the company sponsored Stamp while he successfully completed his Master’s degree.
Since then, Stamp has worked on a number of machine design projects with international companies including a complete packaging line for one of the world’s leading toy manufacturers.
The project pushed the boundaries of packaging machinery capabilities as it was required to handle more than 100 different carton sizes in a variety of styles.
In addition, Stamp has developed and implemented a new parametric design model which enables manufacturing drawings to be produced automatically using a 3D CAD system. Stamp’s performance on these projects, alongside his work alongside the company’s senior engineers, has seen him earn a trusted position within the company.
Now, Stamp is applying for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and continues to engage with young engineers to share insights into the interesting challenges that engineers face.
He is also working on a new additive manufacturing concept, exploring the use of 3D printed components in order to provide a quick turnaround of change parts and improve customer service.
