Car production has resumed at Nissan's Sunderland factory after shutting down last week following maintenance work taking longer than expected.
Following workers returning last Monday after the summer shut down, problems arose in the factory’s press department to cause the biggest suspension in the plant’s 30-year history.
Line 1, which assembles the Qashqai and Leaf vehicles, is now back up and running, but plant managers revealed to The Northern Echo that Line 2 remains shut with no fixed date for its resumption.
Total cost of the shutdown has also yet to be confirmed, but the week-long delay could prove costly at a site where Nissan produces 2,000 cars a day.
Sunderland, the UK’s largest automotive facility which employs over 6,000 people, has seen other activities including battery and cylinder head production continue.
