Officials raid chocolate firms

Chocolate manufacturers Nestle and Mars have confirmed that competition officials have raided their German headquarters.

The investigative action was taken following allegations of price-fixing by some of the largest confectionary firms in Europe. Suspicions were aroused when several companies raised their prices at similar times. The firms, however, blame the rise on a steep increase in the price of cocoa.

This is the second such investigation into chocolate industry practice in recent times.
