The UK Ministry of Defence and BAE Systems have decided to continue the Typhoon Availability Service (TAS), a partnership that supports and maintains the RAF fleet of Typhoon aircraft for another 12 months until the end of 2014.
Philip Dunne MP, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, said:
“This is good news for the Royal Air Force and the Typhoon force. Typhoon is the cornerstone of the UK’s air defence and will benefit from continued in-service support provided by BAE Systems in partnership with the RAF.”
BAE will be responsible for providing aircrew and ground crew training, technical support and management of spares, repairs and logistics, as well as, maintaining and servicing the aircrafts.
Nigel Davey, Director for the Military Air Support business at BAE Systems commented:
“I’m really pleased that we have been able to agree terms to continue to support the RAF’s fleet of Typhoon aircraft. We have worked hard over the last five years, in partnership with the UK MOD and RAF, to develop a service that ensures the RAF are able to meet their operational requirements and that is also cost effective for the UK taxpayer.
“The RAF plays an important role both at home and away. This provides us with inspiration, and it is a privilege to be able to be part of the team.”
BAE Systems support the fleets at RAF Coningsby, RAF Leuchars and the Falkland Islands.
