ABB has updated its IRB 1600 industrial robot to be faster, more accurate and to handle more.
ABB Robotics has released an upgrade to one of its most popular products, the IRB 1600. The robot, whose capabilities cover machine tending and material handling through to arc welding and cutting, has had its payload extended up to 10 kg, on both the 1.2 and 1.45 metre variants.
ABB says that second generation QuickMove™ motion control and the low friction spur gears help cut cycle times by up to 50%, in comparison with competitor robots. TrueMove™ technology and a stiff design enable are claimed to offer excellent path accuracy, even at high speeds.
ABB asserts that the upgrade improves upon the IRB 1600’s existing features, such as solid protection for use in harsh environments (IP 67 and Foundry Plus 2) and total mounting flexibility. The 1.2 meter reach variant makes the robot more dexterous in confined spaces. ABB Robotics’ global sales and service organisation extends to 100 locations in 53 countries.
