Engine-maker Rolls-Royce has signed a £600m deal with Japan’s Skymark Airlines to power six Airbus jetliners with its Trent 900 engines.
The engine order follows a letter of intent signed in September 2011 and includes a deal to provide long-term service support, an area that now provides over 50% of revenues at Rolls-Royce.
The Airbus A380 aircraft will enter service in 2014.The Trent 900 has been selected by 11 of the 16 airlines that have made an engine selection for the A380.
The airline also intends to buy 10 Trent 700 engines to power jetliners it plans to lease from Airbus.
Skymark, a new customer for Rolls-Royce, is the only carrier in Japan to select both the Trent 900 and Trent 700 engines.
“We are delighted Skymark Airlines is putting its trust in our technology and support services,” said Bruce Blythe, vice president of the civil aerospace division at Rolls-Royce.
