Stannah has been awarded a prestigious Red Dot in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 for its JOYA stairlift, recognising what the company describes as a step change in the design of home mobility products.
The international accolade, judged by an independent panel of experts, highlights products that demonstrate high design quality across criteria including functionality, usability and aesthetic appeal. Winning entries are considered to be shaping contemporary design thinking and influencing how everyday products are experienced.
The recognition places Stannah among a global cohort of brands acknowledged for innovation in product design, while also signalling a broader shift in how accessibility solutions are perceived within the home.
Design-led approach to accessibility
Launched in 2025, the JOYA stairlift has been rolled out across multiple European markets, including the UK, Italy, Germany and France, reflecting growing demand for mobility products that prioritise both functionality and design integration.
Stannah said the product was developed to move away from the clinical aesthetic traditionally associated with stairlifts, instead focusing on a more discreet and design-led approach. The system features a compact, forward-folding mechanism, ergonomic seating and integrated lighting and audio cues intended to improve usability while reducing visual impact in the home.
The rail and chair have been designed as a single cohesive unit, incorporating a slim black rail and upholstery made from materials developed with sustainability in mind.
Engineering meets user experience
Behind its design, JOYA is underpinned by engineering intended to meet stringent safety and quality standards, reflecting the complexity of developing products within a highly regulated category.
“Receiving a Red Dot Award is an important recognition of the work our teams have put into redefining stairlift design. With JOYA, we set out to challenge long‑held perceptions, creating a product that not only solves accessibility challenges but does so while respecting the home and the people who live in it. It is a bold reimagining of a safety‑critical product, guided by inclusive, human‑centred design and created for people who value both independence and design. This award reinforces our belief that great design should be accessible to everyone without ever compromising on safety, comfort or trust.”

Shifting perceptions of mobility aids
The award highlights a growing recognition within the design community that accessibility products can play a meaningful role in shaping how people live and interact with their homes, rather than being viewed purely as functional additions.
For Stannah, the win reinforces its positioning at the intersection of engineering and design, while marking a broader moment for the accessibility sector as it moves towards more user-centric, design-conscious solutions.
