Teachers targeted to promote manufacturing careers

Today Nissan Sunderland will open its factory doors to welcome educators from the area.

The event, the first of its kind and organised by Work Discovery Sunderland, is aimed at informing teachers about jobs in manufacturing in a hope that students will have better access to information about careers in the sector.

Along with Nissan itself, it will feature presentations from some of the region’s leading manufacturing companies, including Liebherr, Grundfos, Tacle Seating and Calsonic Kansei.

The Work Discovery Sunderland programme has grown out of Work Discovery Week and includes specialised sector days and inspirational speaker days.

This is the first time one of the events has been aimed at teachers rather than pupils, giving them vital information about the career entry points in manufacturing.
