The UK’s only manufacturer of air dried fruit and vegetable crisps, Nim’s Fruit Crisps, has signed its first ever deal with a leading supermarket.
The crisp maker, which makes all of its products from a bespoke factory in Kent, will kick-off the listing with three stock-keeping units (SKU) at over 60 Co-Op stores across the South East of England, with a view to it going national if sales perform well.
It is the latest milestone in a major year of growth for entrepreneur Nimisha Raja, who has also secured contracts with education and healthcare specialist Handmade Speciality Products, hundreds of independent shops, online platforms and export agreements with distributors in Belgium, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
Raja explained: “We have been in discussion with the major retailers for the last 12 months and there has been a lot of positive feedback.
“Co-Op is a firm believer in sourcing healthier and locally sourced products and, with 70% of Nim’s products being made using British ingredients, it was agreed that it would become the first supermarket to stock our crisps.”
“This is just the start. There will be three varieties on the shelves in 60 locations, but we are already talking about extending the range and the listing. We’re doing in-store tastings throughout Kent over the next few weeks to help promote the brand and support the launch.”
Nim’s Fruit and Vegetable Crisps, which are fat, gluten and dairy free, are manufactured at its BRC’ accredited facility in Sittingbourne where it is capable of producing over 12 million packs of crisps a year.
Every pack – which is between 39 and 76 calories – is made up of thin slices of 100% natural fruit and veg crisps that have been air dried to produce a deliciously authentic ‘taste’ that adds a sense of fun to healthy eating.
In addition, Nim’s is the only fruit and vegetable crisp brand currently licensed by the Department of Health as ‘1 of your 5 a Day’.
Fans of the healthy alternative to traditional crisps will be able to buy its Pineapple, Beetroot & Parsnip and Tomato & Cucumber crisps as part of the retailer’s commitment to sourcing more locally manufactured produce.
Moreover, the company has recently selected Hope for Children as its ‘good cause’ for the year after being impressed with its innovative way of tackling health issues and promoting better eating and exercise at school.
The charity’s logo will be proudly displayed on all Nim’s Kids packs and 1p will be donated from every pack sold.
