The latest iterations of Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software systems are providing more and more companies with the ability to worry less about their CAD data and version control and spend more time concentrating on their product designs.
UK-based Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD), for instance, uses Autodesk software including PDM offering Vault to help it manage the design data for its seabed ploughs which operate at depths of up to 6,000m.
With the harshness of the environments in which they work, for SMD it is important that its engineers spend their time focused on making sure the product is right, rather than wasting time looking over versions or correcting mistakes.
According to a representative from SMD, “When using Vault, once you check a file out the vault, you then own that file… Nobody can actually modify it until it’s checked back in. There’s also a history there so if someone in the company does make a change mistake and change a part that alters hundreds of assemblies, it’s quite easy to roll it back to the previous version.”
The Manufacturer in conjunction with Autodesk are running a series of webinars this month on PDM and PLM and we would like to invite you to join us.
Get more control over your design data with revision management capabilities. Quickly find and re-use data to manage your design and engineering information more easily.
Learn how PDM and PLM can help you create better designs and build a more efficient development cycle.
