AMRC Cymru and Wrexham Leadership Alliance have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating innovation, skills development, and investment across North Wales.

The collaboration combines AMRC Cymru’s world-class research capabilities with the Alliance’s local business network to support regional manufacturers and communities. The partnership also aligns with the £160m Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone, which is expected to attract £1 billion in private investment and create 6,000 jobs over the next decade.

Andy Silcox, interim chief technology officer at AMRC, said the partnership “will actively deploy our research and technology expertise to unlock and sustain significant growth opportunities for regional manufacturers, positioning the area as a hub for advanced innovation.”

Founded three years ago, Wrexham Leadership Alliance represents local businesses, community groups, and organisations. Craig Weeks, founder of the Alliance, described the collaboration as a way to “combine local business strength and community ambitions with AMRC’s world-leading innovation” to boost growth, the local economy, and skilled job creation.

Caroline Platt, chair of the Alliance, added the partnership would “improve technology, skills, and productivity in the region for the benefit of local communities and businesses.” Ben Spruce, board member, highlighted its role in keeping Wrexham businesses competitive nationally and globally while supporting job creation and prosperity.

Together, AMRC Cymru and Wrexham Leadership Alliance plan to drive economic growth, enhance productivity, and invest in skills development across Wrexham and North Wales.
