The Manufacturer MX Awards entries are open for 2024!
The Manufacturer MX Awards (TMMX) has been launched for another year, to recognise the remarkable achievements of some of the companies and individuals within UK manufacturing.
Organised by The Manufacturer in partnership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), TMMX Awards are widely considered the gold standard in industry awards and are the only peer reviewed and judged programme of their kind for UK manufacturing. More via The Manufacturer
JLR ramps up recruitment with 250 new electrification jobs
JLR has today announced it is recruiting 250 electrification engineers to work at its Gaydon and Whitley facilities. The roles will further propel the development of JLR’s next generation pure electric vehicles launching by 2030 under its Reimagine strategy.
Within the 250 new roles, the luxury car manufacturer is specifically recruiting over 40 battery engineering roles, working across disciplines including advanced energy storage systems, battery cell design, and cell stack assemblies, as well as hardware and software essential to battery and electrical systems. GKN Aerospace signs significant agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines to expand support
GKN Aerospace has strengthened its long-term partnership with engine-maker Safran, after signing a decade-long agreement to expand its support for the LEAP engines.
The contract covers new shafts and spare part production for the Leap 1A variant for the Airbus A320neo aircraft, with the expectation to produce similar components for the LEAP 1B for the Boeing 737-MAX aircraft in the future. More via GKN Aerospace
Tool manufacturer sold in cross-border deal
A Wellingborough-based automotive harness wiring manufacturer and distributor has been sold to US corporate TTI Inc.
Raffenday has been supplying the automotive, marine and industrial markets for over 20 years, with facilities in Wellingborough and Slovakia. More via The Business Desk
Electroserv invests £200k in new premises and creates 20+ jobs
Instrument measurement and control specialist, Electroserv has expanded into new premises, more than five times the size of its old site.
This move will allow Electroserv, which is a key supplier to manufacturers across the UK, to hit its £10m turnover goal and create more than 20 new jobs. More via The Manufacturer
Fisker pauses production for six weeks, awaiting new investment
Fisker, an electric vehicle startup manufacturer and maker of the Ocean SUV, has announced a six-week pause in production starting the week of March 18, 2024.
According to a release by the manufacturer, the pause will help the company “align inventory levels and progress strategic and financing initiatives.” More via Car and Driver
Pilgrim’s Pride lines up the closure of another UK factory
Pilgrim’s Food Masters, part of US meat major Pilgrim’s Pride, plans to close another UK factory, a move that will affect 260 jobs.
The UK-based company, which makes chilled and frozen ready-meals for supermarkets, has announced the redundancies at its site in Southall in west London. More via Just Food
Unilever’s Gloucester ice-cream factory waits to hear what massive restructure could mean
Unilever has refused to reveal whether jobs at its ice-cream factory in Gloucester are at risk as part of its turnaround plans. The consumer goods giant is planning to split off its ice-cream division and cut 7,500 roles globally under major new proposals. More via MSN
Forterra installs 7000 solar panels at Desford factory
Leading building products manufacturer Forterra has recently installed almost 7,000 solar panels at its new state of the art factory in Desford, Leicestershire.
The solar panels have been installed by Custom Solar, a company that designs, installs and maintains nationwide solar panel systems for corporations and public sector institutions. More via The Manufacturer
