Magtec has been named Manufacturing Company of the Year in the Sheffield Business Awards, the premier showcase of enterprise in the industrial heartland of South Yorkshire.
Judges singled out the fast-growing company’s “efficient and innovative approach to manufacturing” in a highly competitive field. Magtec was also shortlisted in the Scale-Up Award category for best business growth.
Magtec’s winning entry highlighted its investment in people, innovation in product technology and market diversification strategy. The company has created more than 100 new engineering-related jobs over the last three years, bringing total headcount to more than 160 people. It is unique in the commercial electric vehicle sector as it designs, manufactures and produces core technologies as well as software and diagnostic systems. Magtec’s main market is trucks but it has a growing presence in other sectors including rail, UK land defence, bus re-powers and special applications such as marine and mining.

The Sheffield Business Awards were organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and business magazine unLTD with international law firm CMS as headline sponsor.

The Manufacturing Company of the Year category was judged on the basis of growth, improved commercial performance, increased market share and operational effectiveness. The Scale-Up Award was for a business that has experienced exceptional growth in the past year, positively contributing to the economy of Sheffield.
Magtec was founded in 1992 by chief technical officer Marcus Jenkins.
