Babcock International has been awarded a new 10-year contract by Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) to continue its role as the charity’s aviation partner.

Under the contract, SCAA will continue to lease two EC135 (H135) helicopters from Babcock, which will be flown by the latter from bases at Perth and Aberdeen International Airport, 365 days a year. Moreover, crews at both airports will be equipped with Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS) technology going forwards to maximise operational capability. Babcock is also responsible for providing backup aircraft in case they are needed.

The pre-hospital emergency care provided by SCAA is trusted by communities across Scotland, reaching some of the most remote and rural areas of the country.

Chloe Barker, Managing Director of Babcock’s UK aviation business, said: “SCAA delivers critical lifesaving care to communities across Scotland, saving thousands of lives every year.

“We’re proud to have been by the charity’s side for 10 years, delivering essential helicopter emergency services and are thrilled to continue our collaboration with the charity as it looks to further enhance its services.”

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance Chief Executive, David Craig, added: “We are delighted to continue our long-term aviation partnership with Babcock. Keeping patients at the centre of everything we do is critical when determining our strategic focus. These service upgrades are the next step to ensure that SCAA achieves our ambition that ‘no one in Scotland should die because help can’t get there, in time’.”
