Babcock International has been awarded a five-year contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to manage and service its “white fleet” of vehicles, covering cars, vans, trucks and specialist platforms.
The new Phoenix 3 agreement, valued at around £60m, builds on Babcock’s existing support under the Phoenix 2 contract, which has been in place since 2016. The deal includes options to extend for up to five additional years and is expected to sustain around 60 jobs.
Under the contract, Babcock will oversee a broad scope of fleet management activities across both leased and rental vehicles. This includes vehicle sourcing and procurement, service, maintenance and repair (SMR), accident management, and the provision of a bespoke Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) supporting operations in the UK and overseas.
The FMIS platform is designed to manage all MOD white fleet vehicles, helping ensure consistent, compliant and efficient operations while enabling the department to benefit from economies of scale.
Kate Robinson, Managing Director of Through Life Equipment Support at Babcock, said the contract would play a key role in maintaining operational capability: “Providing steadfast support to the MOD’s white fleet ensures they maintain the mobility and operational readiness it needs at home and abroad. As a trusted partner we are dedicated to sustaining the white fleet capability through the Phoenix 3 contract.”
Rear Admiral Paul Murphy, Director Major Programmes, Defence Support, added that the fleet is central to both routine and specialist activity across defence. “Defence white fleet is a critical enabler to current, contingent and specialist operations, as well as business as usual by all areas,” he said. “The award of the new Phoenix 3 contract secures this capability for the future and modernises the management of Defence white fleet.”
The award reinforces Babcock’s role in delivering engineering, fleet readiness and logistics support to the British Armed Forces, following a recent £1bn, five-year contract extension to provide strategic support to the British Army.
