Construction equipment manufacturer JCB has launched a series of new charity initiatives ranging from support for elderly residents and children’s holiday programmes to funding life-saving health screenings, reinforcing its long-standing community outreach efforts.
Support for vulnerable residents
In North Wales, the company donated funds to help The Rainbow Foundation raise money for a new minibus to transport elderly residents to wellbeing hubs in Penley and Marchwiel.
The vehicle will provide access to services such as day care, lunch clubs and exercise sessions, helping reduce loneliness and isolation among older people in rural communities.
The charity had previously seen its transport fleet shrink to two reliable vehicles, making the new minibus vital for maintaining services for hundreds of residents.
Backing life-saving heart screening
In a separate initiative, JCB donated £1,000 to Uttoxeter Rotary Club to support community heart-screening events held in memory of a young Formula One mechanical engineer, Anthony Lane, who died aged just 26 from an undiagnosed heart condition after collapsing while exercising at his home in Rugby in October 2022.
The special free screening days will provide tests designed to detect hidden cardiac conditions early and potentially prevent sudden cardiac deaths. The programme aims to raise awareness of heart health among young people and workers in engineering and manufacturing, with screenings offered to local communities.
Major partnership with Hubb Foundation
Meanwhile, JCB has launched a three-year, £375,000 partnership with Stoke-on-Trent charity The Hubb Foundation to fund free school-holiday activities for vulnerable children.
The initiative will create 1,000 activity places every half-term at up to 35 schools, offering sports, STEM workshops, enrichment activities and healthy meals for children aged four to 16.
The collaboration builds on earlier work between the two organisations, including delivering tens of thousands of meals during the Covid-19 pandemic and distributing thousands of Christmas toys to disadvantaged families.
